Germs...

$169 office visit and $23 Rx later...my child has strep and a double eye infection.  The doctor at the Rapid Care walk in place were AMAZING and I love them!!!  I am actually going to write a letter thanking them.  Good health care is really nice, GREAT healthcare is like a gift!  My little one should be better soon, still contagious for 48 hours but now that he has the medicine he should be on the road to wellness!  :)  Eye drops every 4 hours around the clock...really?  Wow it was hard to get my tail out of bed at 2:30am this morning to put drops in his eyes....the things Mom's do!  :)  He's worth it!

Insurance, sick kids and money...

I understand the need for health insurance.

I understand that kids come first.

I understand that I've been playing Russian Roulette with my childs health by not carrying health insurance on him.  The cost to add him to my work ins (which is super cheap for me) would be upwards of $200 - $250 a month and my debt to income ratio doesn't allow for that so...I've allowed him to go without.

My child is now sick.  I think it's strep with a side of sinus infection.  I feel like a schmuck because I can't just call his PCP and say, "hey we need an appt".  We are going to a walk in clinic today, $95 for the office visit, $40 for the strep test, who knows how much for the antibiotics that he'll likely need.

So I checked on BCBS online, the only health insurance in the entire state that will independently cover a minor child without having to have an adult on the policy.  It's going to be $90 a month.  $3500 ded, 50% OOP up to $3000 per year.  Office visits will be $30, specialists visits will be $60, generic Rx will be $10 and name brands will be $45.  So now, my child, who has been (knock on wood and thank the Good Lord above) sick less times than I can count on both hands in his entire life will have coverage.  Now I'm going to pray that we never use it.

Some things I would like to accomplish in 2011:

* read my Bible daily - I need to get into the word!
1) get a sleep number bed
2) go visit Mom and Grandaddy in Florida
3) make it to Penny's birthday party
4) start to keep my house clean/neat
5) ride at LEAST once a week
6) daily back exercises

Todays random

People that cut me off in traffic for no apparent reason make me cranky.
-Okay, a Mac Truck is getting ready to run you over....come on over my friend, my lane is your lane....I'll make room for you!
-Tractor trailer is spewing rocks onto your windshield...come on over my friend (shield ME from the rocks!).
-You just feel like crowding my space, are busy on the phone or texting or didn't bother to look and cut me off, resulting in making me hit my brakes to avoid running into your aggorant @ss...I'm wishing you a flat tire, that you drop your pastry and spill coffee in your lap!

Changes in my routine bug me. A water line broke at my house last night...at 10:30 at night. Not a little leak, not a drip drip drip. I'm talking torrents of water rushing out like Niagra Falls. I was forced to turn off the main water to my home. The simple things like being unable to wash my hands or have water to brush my teeth almost drove me crazy last night. Okay, so I don't "do" change well.

Cat hair on my work cloths. Cat hair on my bed. Cat hair on my pillow. Um...cat hair anywhere other than ON the cat!

Pepperidge Farm Milano Double Chocolate cookies are meant to be enjoyed just one cookie at a time. Eating more than one kind of cheapens the experience.

The soft deep sound of my horse nickering at me in the morning is enough to wipe out any doubt that God is great and that He loves me!

Middle School Sucks!

Free isn't always good!

If my Aunt were an Uncle she'd be a man. (spurred by my son always saying, "but if...")

Mean people suck!

Broken water lines at my home cause me to lose sleep!

Caregivers of the elderly

Nothing warms my heart like the very elderly folks that come into the busy doctor’s office that I work for, accompanied by their son or daughter (or sometimes both). Dressed to the nines with their hair done and their cloths pressed yet hardly able to function and walk on their own. Knowing that their children are taking care of them, washing and pressing their cloths, taking them to get their hair done, loving them the way God commanded. To all the adults out in the world caring for your parents, you have my total respect and best regards. May God bless you in every way! The care, concern and respect with which you treat your parents humbles me and brings tears to my eyes.

Because the elderly folks that come in wearing dirty cloths, looking like they haven’t had a bath in days with their hair standing on end, or limp with oil and grime…break my heart. I can’t tell you how many times a week it’s all I can do to get thru checking out these poor elderly folks that are somehow strapped with uncaring, unloving, mean adult children that feel like they are “stuck” with them. How very much I want to walk around my desk and take them by the hand and tell them that they matter, that they are important, that God loves them. And on the flip side, how I want to slap some sense into their children and remind them that someday that burden of their elderly parent will be gone and they won’t have their precious old wrinkled soft hand to hold or their tired faded eyes to look into. How that very parent likely sacrificed for them and cared for them, wiping their tears and their butts, carrying them to school and to dance and to football or just working hard to keep a roof over their ungrateful, obnoxious heads.

To every adult caring for their elderly parent or parents…my hats of to you a million times over!
